Prologue was composed for and dedicated to the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Program on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. It is a short and virtuosic fanfare, and all three parts are of equal difficulty.

The piece was premiered at the BOA/Yamaha Music For All Symposium at Ball State University on June 24, 2013 by (left to right above) Stephen K. Bottom (BACH Conn-Selmer Trumpet Artist and Clinician), Joshua Gilbert (2013 Yamaha Young Performing Artist Winner) and Chad Winkler (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra), as the opening work on the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Winners' Recital.

The premiere of Prologue was so enthusiastically received by the large audience that the Yamaha Corporation announced it will be used to open the Winners' Concert every year.
